GLASS BALUSTRADES FOR NEW CLIP N CLIMB ACTIVITY CENTRE

DESIGN, SUPPLY & INSTALLATION

Clip N Climb Glass Balustrades

OVERVIEW

Situated in the heart of the Eden Shopping Centre, neighbouring Cineworld and Hollywood Bowl, Clip ‘n Climb’s latest activity centre in High Wycombe required a carefully designed solution to meet legal safety standards while enhancing the space's aesthetic appeal.

Atkinson Developments, the project’s main contractor, recognised the need for top-tier craftsmanship and enlisted 360 GSS to deliver bespoke glass balustrades and partitions.

The project involved over 27 metres of custom glass installations, including a 21.1-metre frameless glass balustrade separating the climbing area from the shopping centre foyer, integrated with a frameless maglock-release gated fire escape. Additionally, a 6-metre glass partition was installed to create a defined yet open viewing area for visitors.

CHALLENGE

Creating a safe, functional, and visually stunning space for Clip ‘n Climb required addressing several key requirements:

  • Legal Compliance: The installations had to meet strict building safety regulations to ensure the safety of climbers and visitors alike.

  • Aesthetic Integration: The design needed to complement the vibrant energy of Clip ‘n Climb while blending seamlessly with the modern design of the Eden Shopping Centre.

  • Uninterrupted Views: Transparent glass elements were essential to maintain clear sightlines for parents and visitors to observe the climbing activities.

  • Precision Installation: The installation had to be carefully planned to minimise disruption in the bustling shopping centre environment.

SOLUTION

360 GSS applied their architectural glass expertise to deliver a bespoke, high-quality solution:

  1. 21.1 Metres of Frameless Glass Balustrades with Fire Escape Integration
High-strength, toughened, and laminated glass balustrades were designed and installed to create a secure barrier between the climbing area and the shopping centre foyer. A frameless maglock-release gated fire escape was seamlessly integrated into the balustrade, ensuring compliance with fire safety standards while maintaining a minimalist, polished look.

  2. 6-Metre Glass Partition
Running from the entrance through to the viewing area, this custom partition was crafted to allow natural light to flow while providing a clear spatial divide. Its frameless design added to the centre’s welcoming and open feel.

  3. Collaborative Installation Process
Working closely with Atkinson’s Development, the 360 GSS team ensured smooth integration of the glass installations with the broader construction project. The work was carried out efficiently, ensuring deadlines were met while maintaining the highest safety and quality standards.

  4. Compliance and Durability
All glass panels and fittings adhered to UK building regulations, providing a safe and robust solution suitable for high-traffic public use.

RESULT

The collaboration between Clip ‘n Climb, Atkinson’s Development, and 360 GSS resulted in a stunning and practical transformation of the High Wycombe venue:

  • Safety Assured: The robust glass balustrades and partitions delivered a secure environment that meets all legal standards.

  • Clear Visibility: Frameless glass ensured parents and visitors could enjoy uninterrupted views of the climbing area, enhancing their overall experience.

  • Modern Aesthetics: The design of the glass installations elevated the space, blending perfectly with both the activity centre and the shopping centre foyer.

  • Efficient Execution: Despite the challenges of working in a live environment, the project was completed on schedule with minimal disruption.

This project highlights how 360 GSS’s craftsmanship and expertise, combined with Atkinson’s Development’s vision, can transform a space into something exceptional. By blending safety, style, and functionality,
